In the mid-80’s Applewood began selling bulk wildflower seed to the highway and re-vegetation markets including city, state and federal governments, parks, golf courses, landscapers and other seed companies.
During this time the company hired a botanist to lead a comprehensive research program and oversee trial gardens. Other experienced horticulturists were added to facilitate landscape sales. In 1997 the retail product division was sold when Dee wished to retire after 26 years of developing retail products, producing catalogs and even writing a book on gardening.
