More New Garden Flowers

We have added some colorful, favorite garden flowers to our offerings this year. Lobelia ‘Crystal Palace’ (Lobelia erinus) is an old-fashioned annual favorite that can be used for rock gardens, beds, border edges and containers. The compact plants have deep blue flowers that bloom all summer long and can be planted in full sun or partial shade. They are especially beautiful in large containers when paired with plants that have complementary colors of white, yellow or red.

Elegant Lupine ‘Pink Fairy’ (Lupinus elegans) is an annual lupine with very fragrant, bi-colored flowers of rose and white. This variety grows two to three feet tall and is a great addition to the fragrant or cut flower garden. Place it in groups of several to many plants near a patio or open window so that the wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed. The species is native to Mexico and Guatemala.

Petunia ‘Fire Chief’ (Petunia nana compacta) is another old-fashioned favorite that was an All-America Selections winner in 1950. Bred by Bodger Seed Company of Lompoc, California, it was the first true red petunia to be introduced. ‘Fire Chief’ is a multiflora type that is extremely free-flowering and has a bushy, compact growth form. The deep red flowers are scented, unlike modern petunia varieties, and will fade to a soft, rose-red color.

Rudbeckia ‘Marmalade’ (Rudbeckia hirta) is a dwarf Rudbeckia with large, golden-orange flowers that bloom from summer to early fall. It is a versatile plant that can be used in flower beds, borders, cutting gardens and large containers.
