Mule’s Ears

Mule’s Ears gets its name from its large, lance-shaped leaves. It has big, sunflower-like flowers and is common on open hillsides and meadows in the foothills of the western mountains. It is not unusual to come across many acres covered with this species. Its well-developed root system aids in preventing erosion, and it is widely used for reclamation purposes. Small mammals and birds utilize Mule’s Ears for nesting and cover, and it provides forage for deer.
