Rattlesnake Master
(Eryngium yuccifolium)

A true tallgrass prairie species, Rattlesnake Master grows from 3 to 5 feet tall, with flowers that have a sweet aroma that attracts various pollinators. Its habitats include rocky woods, moist to slightly dry black soil or sand prairies, savannas and limestone glades. Plants are best in full sun, with dry to moderate moisture and well-drained, poor sandy soils. It is best left undisturbed once established due to its large taproot. Native Americans used fibers from the leaves and used the roots for medicinal purposes.
