Spiderwort, Prairie
(Tradescantia occidentalis)
Prairie Spiderwort is a perennial which is native to the central U.S. It is found in drier plains, prairies and savannas. The blue flowers occur in clusters at the tops of the stems, and they will close in the afternoon in sunny weather. Flowers will stay open longer in cloudy weather. Plants are drought tolerant, and the flowers provide nectar to pollinators in the spring and early summer.
